April Showers

Photography taken by Dave Jaranilla

This month California experienced some stormy weather. Although, it was expected because the rain of this month is considered April showers. I didn't mind it because there are benefits of rain. I didn't have to water the plants, the droplets help me fall alseep, and of course, they leave behind puddles!
I took the opportunity of shooting a look with the left over pools of water in the concrete. I decided to put to use my rad floral denim shirt. I thought to myself, "with showers comes flowers." I wanted to keep the color palette very neutral, kind of that calm feeling after a storm. The simplicity of the outfit allows the view to focus on the details of the floral patterns. Besides the shirt, I my bottoms are earth toned. My pants are Levi's khaki skinnies, and my shoes are Converse by John Varvatos chukkas. I got the shoes for a great discount at the Irvine Spectrum a few years back. They were still a bit pricey for me, but I had to own these vintage distressed shoes!

Vintage Graphics

First of all, I want to apologize for not posting as much this week. I have been super busy with other projects. If you have been following my Twitter you would know some of the recent exciting news! As for the post, here are a few vintage tees I had thrifted. These vintage style designs are are perfect for the summer! The colors of the shirts hit the mark as well for the season, my favorite being the teel. There is nothing like a light top layer with gnarly visual aesthetics.

Blocked Color

Photography taken by Dave Jaranilla

It has been a while since I put a sophisticated look together. I could hardly wait to put this "Compliments of Spring" button up to use. It is such a rad shirt! For this look I wanted the focus to be solely on the button up. Spring is all about color blocking. Since the colors were so bold, instead, I decided to block the color. The complimented hue within in the shirt were so vibrant I wanted to tone it down by layering the rest of the outfit in black. It gives the shirt a nice revealing touch.
I am wearing a black blazer with the floralesque short sleeve, both were thrifted. The blazer had the perfect tailoring. The bottoms consist of black Levi's trousers and my favorite Salvatore Ferragamo chukkas. It is hard to come across these pair of shoes since they are majorly popular. I was lucky to have snagged them for a deal on Ebay. The last touch to this look was my orange silk pocket square. It came with another vintage blazer I had found, but I thought it "suited" this ensemble.

Floral Denim

This short sleeve is a perfect combination for spring. I can barely find any garments in the store that contain, both, light washed denim and floral print. It may be a risk for the fellas to try to pull off floral patterns, but with the right type pattern it is possible. What I like about this shirt is that the pattern is only on the front half of the shirt. For me, there is less of an uncertainty when wearing floral if the pattern is more of a reveal.

Just A Friend

My friend Jasmine Villegas' music video was released this month. The video was for the remix of her "Just A Friend" track. I had the opportunity to be a part of this innovative concept. The concept was a cool way for the fans to interact with her music video. It was a fun shoot and I got to share some of my dancing skills. Again, the stylist requested us to bring options of clothing for the shoot. As usual, I was able to wear rock my thrifted finds from my Seamed Right collection. Most of my look came from "The Streetster" post. Only changes were the hat due to logo conflict, and we weren't allowed to wear white shirts. You can also log into your Facebook account, and check out the interactive video here. Enjoy!

Compliments of Spring

When it comes to spring style, I have noticed certain popular trends. This spring its all about bold colors and floral type patterns. Here is a floralesque button up I thrifted. The pattern isn't necessarily floral, but the strokes on the shirt create the essence of it. What I enjoy most about this shirt is that the vibrant colors are complimentary. It would definitely bring attention to an outfit.

Foam x Urban Outfitters Event

"Hellawood, a surf-inspired pop-up shop and art show (curated By Marissa Maximo for Urban Outfitters In Collaboration with Timothée Verrecchia for Verrecchia & Partners) launched at Space 15 Twenty in Los Angeles this April. Featuring photography, film, visual art, and commissioned boards, in addition to men’s and women’s surf apparel from across the U.S. and Australia. Hellawood aims to show that—in the sentiment of Jeff Spicoliall—we need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and we’re fine."

Fashion, music, art, and surf, what more could a person ask for? The Hellawood opening was an amazing experience. Again, I would like to thank Andie of Urban Outfitters for the humbling invite. The set up was spectacular as every section of the room had a different feel. The variety art displayed on the walls along with the dimly lit room helped set the mood. The vibe was lively and everyone was dressed at their best.

Art Park

This art influenced brand, based out of Australia, is one with which to be familiar. Paul McNeil and Craig Rochfort shaped the brand with their inspiration of their surroundings. Art Park's table consisted of gnarly graphic tees, and as an artist I greatly appreciated their work. My favorite piece of clothing was Paul McNeil's "Lefts" board shorts. They were designed in the perfect blue color with an elegant illustrated wave pattern. The fellas of Art Park were very easy going and had a rad sense of style. One of them described it as chill and laid back.

In transition to the next section over, there was a collection of brands laid out. The stacks of t-shirts consisted of Insight, Bolt, and Globe. They also had great denim jeans by Goodstock. The rack to right was designated for clothing by Feal Mor.

The Silent Auction

Custom surfboards by Curtis Kulig and Alex Kopps X Travis Reynolds were auctioned off and proceeds were given to surf-based charities, Rio Breaks Foundation and Beyond the Surface International. You can still shop the Hellawood pop-up at Space 15 Twenty all month long. Check it out!

Less is More

Photography taken by Dave Jaranilla

Spring has arrived! When it comes to spring style, for me, wearing less is more. It is the perfect time to expose more skin because the weather allows us to do so. What I mean is, it's appropriate to have less length in garments and layering.
My newest thrift find is featured in this look. The colors of this button up have spring written all over it. Underneath I am wearing a basic tank from Urban Outfitters that I bought a while back. I am unable to list the brand because I cut the tag off for comfortably purposes. The details of this fabric are rad because of the hint of colors it possesses. I rolled up my brown Levi's, and threw on some suede shoes. I kept the color blocking solid in an earth tone palette, but added a dash of color in the patterns.
