Saks Fifth Avenue: The Fifth Man

"Today, Saks Fifth Avenue introduced a newly renovated men’s store at its historic Beverly Hills location."The Fifth Man," the stand-alone lifestyle store offers a one-of-a-kind shopping experience highlighted by all-new designer presentations, one of the largest men’s shoe shops on the west coast."

On March 7th, Saks Fifth Avenue unveiled their men's store and celebrated the debut of their highly anticipated D-BAR. It was an honor to be a part of this amazing event. I want to give special thanks to Mary C., of Saks Fifth New York, for the humbling invitation. The Fifth Man short for "The Saks Fifth Avenue Man" is an exquisite men's store that merges New York and Los Angeles interests in clothing. The experience propels shopping to another level as the new renovations cater to the distinctive lifestyles of both cities.

The main floor contains the heritage of Saks Fifth Avenue elevated by New York design and architecture firm CBX. Like Seamed Right's mission statement, Saks Fifth Avenue believes in modernizing the old by making it current. The stunning visual aesthetics consist of furniture and custom designed fixtures. The high exposed ceilings and the hand-distressed European white oak flooring promote exploration to navigate the entire store. The selling floor houses new vendor shops from Giorgio Armani, Brunello Cucinelli and Salvatore Ferragamo are included, as well as a new space for the exclusive Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Collection.

Customers can also find the expansive new shoe shop, featuring an unrivaled selection of over 600 unique styles. Newly added brands include Del Toro, Giuseppe Zanotti, Kiton, Louis Leeman, Martin Margiela, Pirelli, Riviera, and soon, Lanvin. Customers will be treated to ultra-modern interiors juxtaposed against features like an original 1947 Art Deco Lalique chandelier. The newly designed spaced is divided into three sections, one for classic brands such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Rosetti and Pierre Corthay; one for designer brands like Gucci, Prada, Dior and Alexander McQueen; and one for contemporary brands like Paul Smith, Vintage, Viktor & Rolf and Marc Jacobs.

The stairs to the right of the store lead down to the lower level called, "D-BAR." This underground home for denim and drinks was created for a typical guy's hang out. I had a privilege of talking with senior vice president, Harry E. Cunningham, who elaborated on the inspiration of the visual store planning. Mr. Cunningham aimed to bring New York to Beverly Hills, while keeping L.A.'s culture in mind. In contrast to the main floor, the lower layout is more playful, loose, and designed by California Architecture & Design firm Marmol Radziner. It includes a street-art-inspired mural that was created by local artist Karlsen Clay. The flooring is a combination of wooden panels and composite surfaces. The wood patterns represent a boardwalk, while the composite is made of an eco friendly texture that is organic and sandlike. Both contribute to the essence of the Santa Monica Pier. The concrete ceiling, decorative light fixtures, and loft space give this California lifestyle layout a New York twist. D-BAR offers comprehensive denim and contemporary lifestyle assortment from vendors such as AG Adriano Goldschmied, Diesel, DL196, J Brand, Joe’s, Hudson, Nudie, PRPS, Rag & Bone, 7 For All Mankind and True Religion, as well as new offerings from up and coming LA-based designers such as Diana Keinejad.

I enjoyed the rest of my night with fellow blogger, Peter Adrian, along with a number of exciting guests in attendance such as athletes John Sally, Delaine Walker, Kirk Morrison, and actress Jessica Alba to name a few. The atmosphere was set by the décor which included a lounge area with a custom-designed orange-felt-top pool table and a live DJ. The attached John Allan’s Salon allows guests to get a drink, or to partake in a variety of grooming and treatment options. The evening concluded with fine tasting of exotic hors d'oeuvres and desserts that were provided by the attentive staff. Not only was this a successful event, but it also promotes awareness to the charity, "Sports Spectacular," which supports the Medical Genetics Institute Cedars-sinai. It was a remarkable and amazing experience!

Join Saks Fifth Avenue at their public event that takes place Saturday, March 9th from 10am-5pm. Enjoy this experience with a few friends while supporting a great cause! Hope to see you there.
